Dose

  • Analgesia

    • Adult: IV bolus 1-2mg

    • Paediatric: IV bolus 0.05-0.1mg/kg

  • Sedation (normally used in conjunction with a hypnotic)

    • Adult: 0.1mg/kg/hr (titrated to effect)

  • Opioid receptor agonist

Side Effects

  • Respiratory depression

  • Hypotension

  • Bradycardia

  • Nausea +/- vomiting

  • Hallucinations

  • Clear, colourless solution

  • Ampoules of 10mg in 1ml or 30mg in 1ml
